Common Questions About Mold

 Stachybotrys chartarum also known as black mold is one of the more toxic molds we can have in our homes. When black mold is found or suspected an expert should be consulted immediately.

Household bleach is 95% water which will only strip the surface layer of mold leaving behind millions of spores. The remaining spores will be imbedded into the building materials which will continue to grow. Any mold that is discovered should be remediated by an expert.

Mold can be prevented by maintaining proper humidity levels (35%-55%), fixing any water intrusion issues and maintaining a clean, dust free home.

It is recommended that anything over 10sqft be handled by a professional. We at Pure Air recommend any mold issue to be handled by a trained expert as to not spread the issue further.

A mold odor indicates an underlining issue. An air sample should be pulled to identify the extent of the issue as well as the types of  mold present.

Symptoms of Toxic Mold Syndrome include;

  • muscle pain, cramps, burning, unusual shooting (ice pick-like) pains
  • headaches
  • fatigue, weakness, flu-like symptoms, fever, chills
  • shortness of breath, cough
  • abdominal pain,
  • diarrhea,chronic sinusitis, sore throat
  • burning eyes, red eyes, sensitivity to light
  • difficulty with thought processes, memory loss, loss of concentration, confusion, disorientation, “brain fog”
  • dizziness, balance problems
  • and more
